Q: Anna from trevose says…dear doc… I sweat a lot. I use anti-persperant and deodorant and I sweat. I know sweating is necessary, but is there anything that can be done to at least cut down on the amount?
A: Anna, while sweating is normal to help cool the body down and keep from overheating, some people have a problem called hyperhidrosis and can sweat profusely from under their arms or from their palms even when sitting calmly in a cool environment. This uncontrolled sweating can often be embarrassing and annoying. There are solutions though. One way is by using Botox. Botox can be injected under the arms or in the palms and will put those hyperactive sweat glands to sleep for several months before you need another treatment. Another option is using a treatment called PrecisionTX. This treatment uses a laser to obliterate those hyperactive sweat glands that are just below your skin. This treatment is done in the office and usually takes about an hour. People who get these treatments are usually extremely happy because they feel they are back in control of their bodies.
