Neck Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Princeton and New Jersey

A necklift is a procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the neck by shaping and repositioning the deeper layers of the neck to make it look more defined and youthful. A necklift can be performed by itself or in conjunction with other procedures in order to help balance the face and achieve a natural and pleasing result. This may leave you looking more youthful and may improve your self-esteem.

If you want to improve the appearance of your neck, you can have a neck lift in Princeton with Dr. Adam Hamawy. Dr. Hamawy is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

Before you decide to have a neck lift, or any other facial plastic surgery such as facelift or eyelid lift, think carefully about your expectations and make sure you discuss them with Dr. Hamawy.

Your Neck Lift Consultation

A neck lift may be right for you if you are a man or woman with signs of an aging neck. This is usually due to loose neck skin and muscles often combined with some excess fat. For most people, this begins to develop in their forties.

During your first visit, Dr. Hamawy will analyze your face and neck and evaluate the shape, the amount of skin and underlying muscles and fat. After your consultation, photographs will be taken for your medical record and additional analysis.

Be prepared to discuss any medical conditions you may have, allergies, prior surgeries, and any medications, vitamins or other supplements that you currently take. You will be asked about any conditions that may complicate the procedure such as uncontrolled hypertension or clotting problems. It is important for you to provide complete information. If you are a smoker, you will be asked to stop smoking at least 3 weeks before your surgery. Dr. Hamawy is concerned about your health and safety and depending on your medical status may ask for additional evaluations before proceeding with surgery.

You will learn about the procedure, its limitations and risks, and Dr. Hamawy will discuss your needs and concerns. He will explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you based on your examination and factors such as the degree of neck deformity, quality of skin tone, and underlying structures.

Surgery Techniques

There are several different techniques that are used for neck lifting that range from office procedures with minimal down time to more extensive surgery requiring anesthesia and time off for recovery. If you have minimal excess skin with good skin tone and some excess fat, liposuction may be all you need. Incisions are discrete and hidden in natural creases below your chin. If more extensive skin removal and tightening is required this can be done though incisions that are hidden around the ears and possibly under your chin as well. These allow access to your neck muscles that can be tightened and allow removal of fat and skin.

Dr. Hamawy believes that procedures must be individualized and that no one technique is right for every patient. After examining you, Dr. Hamawy will be able to recommend the best procedure for you to achieve the optimal results.

The Day of Surgery

Before surgery, you will be given medicine to lessen the anxiety and pain. Dr. Hamawy will discuss with you what type of anesthesia to use, depending on your level of comfort. If you want to remain asleep during the procedure, you should request general anesthesia. Otherwise, your surgeon can use local anesthesia with sedation. It’s up to you and your surgeon to decide what is best for your comfort depending on what surgery will be performed. After the procedure, you will wake up in a recovery area where you will be closely monitored. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home and stay to help you the first few days while at home.

Your Recovery

Swelling and bruising is normal for several days. You may also feel some tightness and areas of numbness on the skin. You will feel tired and sore depending on the extent of your surgery. When you are discharged, you will be given prescriptions to reduce the discomfort and swelling.

You will be up and walking the day of your surgery. Most plastic surgery patients are back to work one week after surgery; however, less or more time may be required depending on the extent of surgery.

Your follow-up visits will usually start a few days following your surgery for a checkup and Dr. Hamawy will review activity limitations, incision care and concerns you may have. Following this visit you will return in approximately 2 weeks, 1 month. 3 months, 6 months and one year.

Be assured that your relationship with Dr. Hamawy does not end after your surgery. If you have any concerns during your recovery, or have more questions at a later time, you can always contact Dr. Hamawy.

Cost

After your initial consultation, you will be quoted a price that will include Dr. Hamawy’s fee as well as the operating room and any anesthesia fees. Financing options are available.
