DermaPen Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Treatment or Dermaneedling, is a minimally invasive Collagen Induction Therapy technique that has the ability to boosts the skin’s production of natural proteins that give it a youthful, fresh, glowing appearance. This technique is effective in treating a variety of skin problems including facial wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, surgical scars, and stretch marks.
What Is Dermapen Microneedling?
Dermapen Microneedling involves using an automated pen-like device to gently pierce the outer layer of the skin with thousands of microscopic needles. The depth, frequency, and spacing of penetration stimulates your skin’s natural wound healing process resulting in cell turnover and production of collagen and elastin.
Benefits Of Medical Microneedling
Over the last decade, Collagen Induction Therapy with microneedling has been demonstrated in multiple scientific studies to show improvement in fine lines, sun spot, freckles spots, acne scars, large pores and stretch marks. Its ability to trigger the generation of new skin cells by tapping into the body’s natural healing process can significantly reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. The Dermapen Microneedling can also improve botchy, hyperpigmented sun-damaged skin and pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo.
Combination Therapy With MicroNeedling
Because of the ability to create channels into the skin microneedling offers a unique way to effectively deliver products deep into the skin for additional efficacy. Depending on your skin’s specific requirements platelet rich plasma (PRP), hyaluronic acid, growth factors or vitamin C can be added for to help skin quality and texture. The popular “Vampire Facelift” that Bar Rafaeli and Kim Kardashian had done is actually a combination treatment of PRP and microneedling.
Consultation
Professional grade microneedling penetrates deeper than a dermaroller or a treatment available at home or spa and therefore is much more effective. A licensed doctor is required to supervise any procedure that breaks the surface of your skin. At Princeton Plastic Surgeons, our consultation will include a computerized analysis of your skin with the Vectra imaging system and a comprehensive evaluation of your skin care regimen. Recommendations will include a Dermapen Collagen Induction Treatment package tailored for your specific skin repair needs and counselling for appropriate maintenance skin care.
Preparing For Microneedling
You don’t have to do much to prepare for your Dermapen appointment. A topical anesthetic cream will be applied to numb the skin before treatment. You should also remove any makeup and thoroughly wash your face to avoid infections. If you are planning on having a combination treatment with PRP (Vampire Lift) then you will need to have blood drawn in the office prior to microneedling. Try to drink plenty of water and hydrate before coming.
Your Collagen Induction Treatment Session
Each session last about 30 minutes to hour. Expect to have some redness that will last about one or two days. You should avoid applying makeup for about 24 hours. Most people can go back to work the next day without a problem. If you are getting a series of treatments, you should plan on scheduling your next one 4-6 weeks later.
