Is there such thing as an ‘ear job?’

Q: Amy from Hoboken writes… My husband Carl has pretty big ears like Dumbo big. I know you can get a nose job but how about an ear job?

A: This is a procedure where we surgically reshape or what some people call pin back prominent years. The sad thing is that this is a procedure that we as plastic surgeons frequently performed for kids who are being made fun of at school or bullied and because of their ears their parents come in asking if there’s anything that we can do about it. The procedure can be done over summer or short break and the problem is usually solved for adults who have lived with big ears since childhood and are self-conscious. This is a big step to restoring their self-confidence again. Women can wear their hair up and men who’ve grown their hair all their lives to hide their ears can now cut it short.
